Sunday 5

Well the weekend finally arrived so I could relax a bit. So far I've had 1:05 min of flying. CTD didn't mean anything. I'm starting all over again. Of course I know what I'm doing or what I should be doing. These planes are much different from the cubs. For instance they land at 70 miles an hour while the cubs landed between 35 and 40. These ships are much easier to handle - it takes less effort to fly them. I fly about 40 minutes a day until I solo then I fly from one to three hours a day. The average solo time is 12 hours so I ought to solo in about two weeks. When we fly we're on the flight line five hours at a time. All this time pretty well wasted but when we get to solo we won't have so much free time. We fly an hour - the other 4 hours are spent walking planes, working peddle machines or reading homework. We're not allowed to write letters or read magazines, so most of the time we just sit and talk. We have two hours of class a day, one hour of airplane engines and the other hour alternates between weather and theory of flight, and navigation. We have half an hour of drill and an hour of P.T. every day. When we get out we'll have from Saturday when we finish flying until Sunday at 8 PM. We also will get out for three hours on Wednesday nights from 6 to 9. This place in in a valley and as a background for the camp we have a 10500 ft. mountain peak. This is very picturesque just like a movie. The camp looks more like a tourist camp than an army post. It took six long months to get here but it sure was worth it.

Say, believe it or not I had my picture taken today. They will bring the proofs next Sunday, then it will take another week or so for the pictures, so be patient, they're on the way. I ordered a dozen but lord knows how I'll get rid of them. I'm sending my favorite girl a color picture the same size as my graduating picture. They ought to go well together. If you're really planning to come out here to see me you'll have to wait to about the first of November. I'll graduate on the third and if you're up on your flying you get a three day pass before graduating. The only way you wouldn't be up on your flying is if there is a lot of bad weather, so it's pretty sure I'll get three days about that time. Oh yes, if you can get a good used car out here you can get its original price. There seems to be a car shortage here. Just to take an exception - I saw this in the paper the other day - 1942 pontiac with about 500 miles on it - original price $900 sold for $1,700. For 39 & 40 models they are paying original price. I'm afraid I won't be able to keep up on my correspondence any more so you'll have to remind the family that I'm still alive and thinking about them. I haven't heard from Robin in a long time so please tell me where he is. Norma asked for a picture of me, so since she's your fault - so to speak - you'll have to dig one up. Well that's all I have time for tonight, I doubt if I'll have time for another letter before next Sunday, so be easy. Say what will you do when I get over seas and you only get a letter once a month. I'm surprised at you for calling up Doris. don't do that again. If anything ever happens you can be sure the Gov. will inform you. I was very disappointed in you. Well maybe I shouldn't have told you about the pictures now you'll be more impatient then ever. Well, that's all for now so I'll say goodnight and chin up.

Love,
Rae
