Well, here's a short note that I"ll try and squeeze in. I got a letter - two in fact - from you today. Well I don't know much about rooms in Hemet but I know you could get one. The hotel is very nice but there I don't know the rates either. I think it's $30 a month but I'm not sure. The local U.S.O. has a list of rooms to be had and there are two captain's wives that also help cadet visitors find places to stay. I'm going into Hemet tomorrow night and then I'll see about the hotel and I'll ask about rooms at the U.S.O. I'll write you on Thurs. and let you know what I find out. Say, you better take the train out here the bus will be too crowded. I've sent you $200, use that. Hemet is about 50 miles from L.A. There is no direct bus from here to L.A. so it would be too hard to get there together. They run a bus for us so I could get to L.A. if you wanted to stay there. We can't have visitors any more on Wed. night. but we can have them on Fri. nights. If you don't care especially for L.A. and you just want to lay around for three weeks, Hemet's the place. Well that's all I can tell you about that. Yes, you can call on Sunday night but that is the time most service men call and I doubt if you could get through. I think your best bet would be to stay in Hemet and go to L.A. during the week unless you could stay with your friends in L.A. May Erstad has a extra bed that she offered me so I don't think you would be putting her out too much. Well that's for you to decide. I'll send you the information about Hemet as soon as I get it. Be sure and take the train - I insist.
Well today I got my first solo ship. I had it for one hour and I could go anywhere I wanted to within the area. Up to now my solos have all been supervised -I'd just take off, go around the field and then land. Before you get a solo ship you have to solo off the mat (that's the main field). We fly - so far - entirely from auxiliary fields. You don't fly from the main field until you're upper class men. You also have to shoot 90 degree landing stages and pass your check ride - 10 hour one before you get a solo ship. 90 degree stages are six landings made at a line. Three have to be over and three under.
Well there goes taps - Good night.
Love,
Rae
