Sunday 12

Well here's my second weekend in quarantine over. Next weekend we get out. Say, I wrote you about ten days ago and I still haven't heard from you - maybe you've disowned me XXX. I got four letters yesterday - Ann, Doris, Ron, and an army buddy. The army sure does things its own way. Of all the boys I was with at Sheppard Field I left the last one at Santa Ana in a bombadier squadron. Jack Replinger went into a different pilot squadron when we moved to preflight. I had two buddies in sq. 34 - we were at Canyon together - one through his arm out of joint three weeks before we shipped and Jim was sent to King City. Now I'm with the boys from 34 but when we leave here we'll be split again. Well I guess that's the army. I guess Pa knows more what I'm talking about, it isn't easy to explain.

Well I guess you want to know about my flying. So far I have only 3 hours and 53 minutes. We do the same maneuvers that we did at CTD except they're different with a hotter ship. I ought to solo the end of this week or the first of next week. The average solo is around six hours. I had a check ride already. It was my first progress check. We have them every so often to see how we're progressing. I still love it here but it sure is rough. It isn't the picnic we thought it would be. The living quarters and food has to be good to keep us going. I really was surprised at the strain we're under here, but I guess it's necessary for flying.

I think I better ask some questions while I still remember them. Send me Sonny's address, it's changed now isn't it? I can use some more wool sweat sox too, no more brown ones though. What kind of planes is Uncle Roy building, are they C-47's? I don't believe you mentioned it. Have you changed your mind about moving again. When does Connie go back to school? How is Kenny and Auntie and the farm coming along. Well, I guess that's enough questions. I got my proofs today and they were lousy so I had retakes which will mean another week longer to wait. After I choose the proof it takes three weeks so you ought to get the pictures around Christmas time. Well it's getting late so I better start closing this. Oh yes, there is a boy here from my class in Emerson, Ruel Lehman. He ran around with Robin and Ann back in High School. Please write often, at least twice a week. This is the first place I've been where I really look forward to mail call. Say, Pa, you better sharpen up on your pool, I'm learning fast. Well, that's all for tonight.

Love,
Rae
