Dear Mom,
Well here's another letter already. We had quite an interesting day. We were to fly a crew to Corsica to pick up a plane. Well, this time we got started and our first stop was Naples; we just stopped and let a guy off, then we went on. We then flew over Rome and we could see the Vatican. It seemed to be a pretty big town. Oh, incidentally the field we landed at in Naples was right at the base of Vesuvius. It sure doesn't look like an active volcano. We also flew over Anzio and we could see Cassino in the distance or at least what's left of it.
Well now for Corsica: as you know, it's an island, but what an island! It has mountains 9000 feet high rising right out of the sea. In all my life I've never seen such rugged and barren mountains. Well, we landed in a valley and then a truck picked us up and took us about our business. There are a lot of French Moroccan troops stationed there. They wear the red fez hats and we saw a couple of them down on their knees praising Allah or something like that.
Well before we left we rode into town and looked it over. There was a large castle on a high hill; it sure looked impressive. There was a three-masted schooner in the harbor, one of those old ships you read about. The air has a clean, fresh smell; it's really fragrant. It is quite an impressive place.
Well, that's about all. At least this letter was a little more interesting than the last one. Well, give my love to everyone.
Love,
Rae
