Well I guess you're a bachelor by now. How does it feel to fix all your own meals and everything? We changed to our O.D.s today so I guess I'll have to put my suntans away for the winter. It sure does get cold here in the morning. It's all right on the ground but when you get upstairs, boy is it cold. We were issued leather flying jackets like my picture and I wear a sweatshirt under it. We were also issued leather gloves too. Sunday afternoon we had to fly and I'm afraid we will have to fly next Sunday, too. I've got 43 hours so far, about 15 more to go. We didn't fly Monday because it rained all day so now we have to land on the mat since the rest of the field is too muddy. That makes most of our landing power landings. We come in short and then use power to reach the edge of the field. Did I tell you that I started on acrobatics - snap rolls and slow rolls and stalls and loops. Today there was an overcast at 5,000 feet so I had to stick to low work which takes only 500 feet. Acrobatics are done at 5,500 feet.
Say, last week end I bowled a 165 game. I got a letter from you today so I shall try and clear up your trouble. This is a flying field owned and operated by civilians, all employees are civilians and XXX. They charge us $30 a month for food and $30 a month for room and linen service. Well instead of the army paying them directly, they give us $63 extra a month. We as cadets are supposed to get $75 per month, well we get around $140 a month so you see it's just a bunch of red tape. They charge us $1.15 a day for board and $1 per day for food - to get real technical. The army allows us $1 per day for food and gives us $1.25 a day for board. As for rank we rank above a tech sergeant and under a warrant officer. Well I hope that's clear now. As for night flying we won't get any of that until we get to basic. Well, I can't think of any more questions to answer so I guess I'll close this for now.
Love,
Rae
