Dear Mom
Well today was quite a day - I got two letters from you. One was that one you sent to that first address which was wrong - the other was dated Sep 13. V mail is a lot faster, but I don't especially like it so here's what you can do. Send three V mail letters a week and one real letter at the end of the week. That will be easier for you. Just as long as I get something - even a post card, I'm happy. I've been having a heck of a time writing letters lately cause we haven't been doing anything. Yesterday it rained all day and the wind was really strong. In fact it blew one side of our tent down or in or what have you. We didn't mind since we were moving out of it any way. We're in one of the tents that was left by the boys going home. It's much better than our old one. It doesn't leak.
The first of this month we went into our winter uniforms and since all I had were pinks and greens I was in a fix. They're all right to wear but there's no dry cleaning over here. So today when I went to Cerignola for my rations I brought a suit of O.D.'s. Yes, I could use some wool sox - my duffel bag never came - some guys didn't get theirs for three months after they got here. Pardon me if I get salt on this letter - I'm eating peanuts.
Lew is still in France and Dan went to Rome today. We were supposed to go to Naples but the weather was bad. You probably know where I am now - I imagine Bob Shultz told you all about it. The towns around here aren't bombed out much except Foggia and Naples. We've flown over towns located on top of hills that were laid flat by shell fire. Our engineer has a camera so we've taken some pictures of Naples and some in flight. If we ever get them developed and printed I'll send some to you. I'm sending home this clipping - save it for me ok?
If you want to do something - it's not important but cut out L'il Abner of the evening paper and send them to me. He goes through experiences for about a week or so - well send the whole story at once don't chop it off. So you've got only one more bookcase to go, eh, Pa? I can't believe it, what happened? Say, Ma, I like those tufted rugs, they feel nice between your toes.
Well it's time for chow so I'll close for now.
Love, Rae
