Well here it is Sat. night and my weekend is just about over. We got off last night and have to be back by 10 tonight. Right now it is 8:45 and I have just finished shining three pair of shoes. I went into Taft last night and then again today. It is a pretty nice town, quite a bit larger than Hemet. At least the business district is larger than Hemet. We are quite a way out of town. It costs 20 cents one way on the bus. They run about every half hour or so. There are some hotels in town but they're nothing like the one at Hemet. Michlow was elevated for some reason or other. I told you about going to night school last week, didn't I? We went Mon., Tues., and Thur. night, and then Wed. we had a flight meeting so you can see we didn't have any free time at all last week. This next week will even be worse for I think we go to school five nights. You got me wrong about Victorwill. We will only go out there if the weather here get too bad. This is the rainy season but that doesn't mean it will rain. The weather here is warm - sometimes it's too warm. Half of the squadron will start on formation flying next week. That ought to be fun. Sonny sent me a picture book of his summer camp which was quite interesting - did you see it? I also got a letter from Robin today. Say, what did you send all those pictures for - didn't I explicitly say I only wanted 1 or 2 if there were some good ones? I'm not so conceited that I have to have my own pictures to look at. I can't think of any more questions you asked so I will have to go get your letter and read it again.
I am back with your letters - No none of my roommates are in my squadron. I have about 9 hours to date of flying and I still like it. Tomorrow, which is Sun., we fly all day. On Thanksgiving we have all evening off to go to ground school. In other words it is the same as any other day. By the looks of things Xmas will be the same way. I probably won't get to L.A. unless we get a two day pass. Say, who is that guy in L.A. you told me about - Jerald? Say, Pa, I used to wear my slippers to fly in but now I wear my GIs. This ship is so heavy you really need pressure to move the rudder pedals. The ship weighs about 2 tons - 450 HP - $25,000.
Now it's my turn to ask questions. How is Pa's cold, is it better and has he gained any weight? There's a guy here in barracks from Maringo. We talk about Elgin all the time. There's also a guy from Wheaton College so we have quite the time. Well it's about time for bed so I will close for now.
Love,
Rae
