So you don't like the snow or cold weather eh? How did it seem to get home? I suppose by this time you've forgotten all about your trip. Did I tell you that John went down to Army? Well he did. In about two or three weeks we are going to move - I think. We will probably go to (if we go) Victorwill. It's in the desert and there is better flying weather there. The rainy season is about to start here and it's hazy all the time. Too hazy to fly solo or make cross country flights. About all the upper class is doing is flying formation. I wasn't going to write again until I soloed but as yet I am still a dodo. I have 4 hours and 20 minutes so far. Maybe I'll solo tomorrow, I think. This plane we fly is worth $25,000 - hubba, hubba. I had quite a time getting an instructor. The first day I flew with Lt. Douglas. The next day I flew with Lt. McLean. Lt. Douglas left to field - I think he got a promotion or something. Boy, was I mad, Lt. D. was a swell guy and this Lt. McL. is a jerk. Well the third day I flew with Lt. Grondyke and he's my permanent instructor. I like him and he's a swell guy so I'm happy again.
I told you how nice this place was well I'm afraid I was a little hasty. Because of this Victorwill deal we go to ground school three nights next week and the following week we go five nights. That means we go in the day the regular time and then go some more at night. They're trying to rush us through our ground school so when we go to V. we can fly all day. Which will mean 3 to 4 hours of flying a day. We don't get off Monday like we're supposed to. Instead we don't get off until a week from today which means 11 straight days of flying without time off. Despite all this I still like the place. Last Tuesday night I went to a radio show and dance at the Taft USO center. I had lots of fun and I met a nice local gal. I've been to the show a couple of times and played pool some, too, so you see we do have some free time. The first day I was here a C-54 landed here so you know how large the field is. In PT all we do is have a few exercises and then play games. It sure is easy and fun compared to the stuff we had at Hemet. Say, if you would like to send me something, here's a list. I don't need any of this stuff but I could use it if I had it. (Please note the number) 1XXX face towel, 1 white pure white bath towel, 2 or 3 pair of white under shorts, 2 or 3 pair of GI O.D. sox (nothing else will do). Please!!! for Lords sake remember the number - I'm still chewing stale gum. You asked for a Christmas list so there it is. I got a letter from Robin the other day and one from you too. I've gotten two from Doris not including her presents. Well this has been the longest letter I've written in a long time so I guess I better start to close. There's nothing else to say so I'll say good night.
Love,
Rae
P.S. Have you started fattening up Pa yet? Say, Pa, if she doesn't start taking better care of you make her go to work and you stay home. Oh, yes, did you say you needed some cash? If you do just let me know and I'll fix you up. Don't be so eager to send me money - just wait until next April when I ask for about 2 grand.
