Wednesday 3 March 1943

Well, it was still cold today. We stayed in the barracks until 9:00 AM. Most of the boys sang songs until nine but I wrote three letters. At 9 o'clock we fell out on the drill field with our overcoats on. They marched us to a show and we saw a picture on the cause of this war. It was the most gripping show I have ever seen. It was made up of parts of newsreels and government filmed action. They really gave us the works. They showed the rise of the dictators and how the children were taught about guns and war. It showed the advance into conquored lands and a very inclusive part on the bombing of pearl harbor. In short, it was a show that would never be shown to civilians. It sure was a bloody mess. The show lasted until 11:00 AM and we were marched back to the drill field and then dismissed for chow. In the afternoon we fell out in leggens and flight jackets. We marched out to the cow pasture and had contests. Then we went on a hike. It wasn't so long because we had to be back at 3:00 PM for a mump inspection. We only went about three miles and we didn't have to run at all. For retreat we wore the same outfit and drilled for an hour. I got your tuesday letter tonight plus one from Unk.

First, don't do any planning for my furlow. Ten to one I won't get one until I've been in six months. I won't get any three day passes because I'm too far from home. I am hoping that they might give me a few days after finishing school and before starting pre-flight., but I doubt it. I'll probably go to Texas A and M from here.

Second, I can buy whatever I need right here, the only reason I write home for anything is that you want to send me stuff, soooooo when I ask for something, send it then, not "as soon as possible." As for sox, you can send my sweat sox. You can send me candy or cookies every day if you want. They'll never go begging. I don't know when I'll send home my clothes. Whenever the army gets ready, I guess. I am running out of envelopes so you better send me some more big ones quick. So far I've spent 25 cents since I've been here. 15 cents for a show and 10 cents for a sunday paper. I was glad to hear that you got a service flag but you didn't have to put my name in the paper. Well, I guess that's about all for now.

Much love,
Rae
