Tuesday March 30, 1943

Well we're off again but that's the army for you. This morning after chow we loafed around for an hour or so then we fell out. Twenty men were called out and they went down to the field to drill. Then the first eighty men on the roll call were taken out and marched off for a physical inspection. The rest of us had mail call and I got five letters. After lunch we loafed around until about three then we had another mail call, and the two groups were told that they were shipping. Tonight I didn't go to chow but played tennis instead. At dusk there was another mail call and I got Connie's letter. After dark I played two games of horse shoes and then the group of eighty boys fell out and were told they would leave at 10:30. Their barracks bags were taken to the station and now they're just sitting around waiting. The group of twenty are leaving the first thing in the morning. And my group of 200 are going to leave soon I guess. The whole thing was that there were about 600 soldiers here and that was entirely too many. A group of 200 came down two days before us and moved in the dorm. A month ago a group of 100 moved in here and then they sent 300 of us. So we 300 have to move out somewhere. Sheppard Field was behind time in shipping cadets and I think they shipped us out just to balance their schedule, They shipped 5,000 cadets in five days. All we know that the group of eighty were told to keep their overcoats out. So lord knows where we will go from here. One thing I'm sure is that it won't be as nice as this place. I sure did fall in love with this joint. There might be a chance I will come north but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Better not send any more mail. It's too bad I told you to send that package. Well, I suppose I'll know more tomorrow. Till then, goodnight -

Love,
Rae
