March Sunday 28, 1943
Well today was quite a day. This morning I got up at 6:30 for breakfast and right after breakfast Jack and I went down on the field and played catch for an hour. When we came back to the gym we had measles inspection and one guy had them. At 10:30 a 1st Louie came in and said we could get a pass until 10:30 at night. That gave us 12 hours to look the town over. Well most of the group signed out right away but I sleeped until chow and then shaved and I signed out at 2 o'clock. I went to the show and saw "Commandos Strike at Dawn," it was pretty good. I came back and had supper and after supper Jack, Ed and I walked around town and I played some pinball games and we had a soda. All you see in town is officers. There is a navigators and bombardiers field about three miles away and all the boys in town have their wings. It sure was warm today, we notice it because we have to wear our blouses to town. In my spare time I either sleep or write letters but I've had so much free time the last 4 days I don't know what to do with it all. Well I don't know what to write since I don't do anything. Be sure everyone gets my new address and write soon. I haven't heard from you in a week. Be sure and have my package in the mail April first or around that date. Well good night and be good and I'll send you some of this warm weather. They say it gets to be a 110 degrees in the shade in summer down here.
Love,
Rae
