December 12, 1943

Well it may be Sunday, but it doesn't mean anything to us. We flew today and went to ground school as usual. We've had two days of bad weather so we have to fly instead of having open post. I sure hope there isn't any more bad weather between now and Christmas or we won't get off then either. We had quite a snow up on the mountains so it will be sort of a white Christmas. I was going to do my Christmas shopping this week end so naturally I haven't got anything. I got something for you and Doris here on the post but I couldn't get anything for Pa. I'll find something if it has to be cigarettes. You still smoke don't you Pa? Say, what are you trying to do getting all banged up like that - you had better be a little careful. Have you gained any weight as yet? I got your letter today, the one with Mae's in it. That was a nice letter she sent you. If I get Christmas off I'll go down and see her - it all depends on the weather though. How in the devil does Robin get nine days? Does he know a general or something?

Well I had my forty hour check on Sat. and today I started on instruments. We get 15 hours of instruments and it's pretty rough. All I have is a instrument check left and then I'm through. We get instrument ratings when we finish so you can see it's a pretty complete course. I have my night cross country yet, two hours of acrobatics, and one of formation, but no more checks other than the one on instruments. Well that's all I have time for tonight so I better close for now.

Love,
Rae
