Sunday 8

Well another weekend is over. We got out of quarentene - which, by the way, was for both scarlet fever and spinal meningitis - at the last minute on Saturday. Af first they weren't going to let us out but then they changed their minds which was alright with us. I went to Balboa with a guy and saw the town. We came back to the base at 12:30 AM. All we did was to spend our money in penny arcades and slot machines, not to mention a carnival and bowling. Balboa could be quite the town to spend a week or two for a young couple. I don't imagine you'd like it. All it is, is taverns, dance halls, and amusement places - a place to spend a lot of money. Next week is our party in Los Angeles. I wore my shoes this weekend so they're all broke in for the dance. I only have two weekends left to spend here.

I hope you and Pa went somewhere on his vacation with the money I sent you. After all, a vacation is to spend money and act unnatural for awhile. It's to get out of the rut of every day living. Say, I had to laugh when you said something about getting some money from John's estate and saving it for my schooling. I'm afraid you'll have to buy a car or airplane with it. Last Feb 20, we (Pa, you, and) thought that our little world or what have you would be interrupted for a little while and then it would continue where it left off. Little did we know that that would be the end of your supporting me. Now you may ask what's this all about - it's very simple. I don't suppose you've heard of it yet but it's true. When the war is over the Army (Government) is going to send me to whatever school I pick and for whatever I want to take. Not only will they pay for my schooling but also a salary. That sure will be a big help. This is not just an idle rumor either.

I got a letter from Unk the other day, also one from XXX. I sure do feel funny now in my uniform. Not only do we have to wear collar brass but we wear an Air Corps patch on the left shoulder and a cadet patch on the right sleeve. It sure adds color to our khakies. We start morning classes again next week. I like them better for it's not so easy to fall asleep in class in the morning - it's cooler too. I've got just about two weeks left and then we ship out of here. There really pouring it on in P.T., trying to make super men of us before we leave. Well, I'm afraid that's all the news so I'll have to close.

Love,
Rae
