Dear Mom,

Well I arrived OK and on time and everything. This sure is a swell base, too bad we're not staying very long. Everyone treats us swell. We haven't done anything yet except to get our travel pay and sign our pay vouchers. There don't seem to be many ships goinng out of here, so we're keeping our fingers crossed. The big talk here is that we're going to England. The group ahead of us were told to send their suntans home and England is the only place where you don't wear them. I'm pretty sure we won't leave until sometime next week at the earliest. There's not much to write about yet except I can get El Productos at the PX six at a time. We only got $22 for travel pay - they put a new directive in so we don't get 8 cents a mile anymore. We get the rest of our pay on Sat. I guess. You were right it sure is hot here - it's too humid - hot and sticky. I haven't had a chance to look up those XXX orders for Unk yet, nor have I been over to the quartermaster yet for the jacket. I'll get over there in the next day or so. Well it's time to get ready for our indoctrination lecture so I guess I'll close for now.

Love,
Rae
